Hosted by Santa’s Stan McConnell, the Red Herring Open Mic Night takes place every Sunday night from 7:30-10:30pm.
Open Mic Nights are a great way for musicians to get their voice heard. It is also a good way to learn to work the stage if you have never played in front of an audience before. The Red Herring is a cute and hip little coffee shop/ Vegetarian Restaurant located in Champaign, IL, right in the heart of the good ol' U of I. I've been there before and the stage is very intimate which is great for open mic nights.
Even if you aren't ready for the spot light yet, come out to support and be influenced by other local artists. When they are done, if you like them, talk to them, exchange names. Making these types of connections early on is key, especially when they hear about a show you might have in the future then that is one more person you might get to go. Check it out. If all else fails, go for the delicious apple cider in this cold weather. Happy October!
-Cheers
