MIDWEST Art Scholarship Competition:



Attention all Associate, Bachelor, and Masters Degree candidates with an interest in the visual arts, currently enrolled at a Midwest Regional public or private college or university. No matter what major, if you paint, illustrate, sculpt, design, draw, photograph, or just create art, you are eligible to enter the 3rd Annual Fine Art Finals Midwest Regional Scholarship Competition.


Media accepted include:

* Drawing - graphite, colored pencil, pen and ink, marker, pastel, charcoal, etc.
* Painting - oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, etc.
* Printmaking - etching, lithography, screen-printing, etc.
* Sculpture - clay, ceramic, plaster, marble, glass, wood, resin, porcelain, metal, etc.
* Jewelry - gemstones, precious metals or other materials, etc.
* Fibers - textiles, fabrics, yarn, natural & synthetic fibers, etc.
* Photography - traditional & digital.

This scholarship competition is dedicated to the promotion of talented and gifted emerging artists at the collegiate level and awards their mastery of technique and excellence of artistic achievement. Finalists and Winners will be selected based on quality, originality, and the creativity of their work.


First Place: $1200
Second Place: $600
Third Place: $300

Two Honorable Mentions:
$50 each

SAFE HAVEN COMMUNITY ART SHOW:



A Call For Art! “Open your mind, expand your world.”

A community art show sponsored by Safe Haven residents with assistance by students in FAA 391 and U & I Collab.

In an effort to make homeless issues visible in Champaign County students from the University of Illinois are assisting Safe Haven residents to sponsor an art show at the Independent Media Center on December 4th from 6-9 pm.

Art is being sought to display. Review of submitted art will be handled by Safe Haven residents. Those following the art theme or using their activists using art as a message will be strongly considered. All medias accepted: music, performance, new media, traditional media, etc.

Submissions must be made by November 20th at Noon.

Week of November 09 Artist Lectures


Here is a list of some artist lectures that are going on this week sponsored by the Art and Design department at the University of Illinois. All is welcome....artists, people in the community, non-artists, etc. This is a great way for artists to gain influences, even if the lecturer's art is in a different medium. Check them out!!!

Valerie Carlson, Vice President of Creative of Razorfish Inc. (http://www.razorfish.com/), will be here to give us an amazing presentation! Razorfish Inc. is one of the world's largest interactive agencies and one of the largest buyers of digital advertising space. Razorfish provides services to its clients in the areas of digital advertising and content creation, media buying, strategic counsel, analytics, technology and user experience. The presentation starts at 10 AM in Room 107 and this is a gd+id event, so all are welcome!
